🧾 What to Include in the Referral
Keep it short, but make it meaningful:
- Main complaint: e.g. “Right L5 radicular pain 6 weeks, no red flags.”
- Location and side: left/right, region or level.
- Duration or mechanism: acute, chronic, post-injury, post-surgery, etc.
- Clinical question: what are you trying to confirm or rule out?
- Relevant surgical history or implants.
Just a few focused lines can completely change how we scan — and how accurate your patient’s report will be.
🚫 What’s Not Needed
To keep things efficient:
- Avoid long clinic letters or unrelated past history.
- Skip vague phrases like “back pain” or “query pathology.”
- Leave out minor comorbidities unless they affect scanning (e.g. renal function, pacemaker).

Poor: “Knee pain.”
Better: “Right knee pain after twist injury, swelling, instability. Query ACL/meniscal tear.”
That small difference means the correct coil, slice planes, and reporting focus — leading to faster, more useful answers.
